Day #28 A Skill Id like To Learn / Day #29 Something I Could Neve Tire Of / Day #30 Three Wonderful Things That Happened This Month

Another 3-in-1 blog post to finish of my 30 Days Hath November blog challnege.

Hope you've all enjoyed reading these and may be inspired to join me next year!

Day #28 A Skill Id like To Learn
This is a bit of a difficult one - what's springing to mind is maybe learning another language or instrument, but I get the feeling I'm thinking that just to sound thoughtful. I'm quite crafty and I like making things, so it'd be great to maybe learn something like how to use a sewing machine, or to think outside the box with cheap ways to decorate the house. I've hinted on getting a craft book from The Makery from Santa this year so watch this space.
(The Makery Book: http://www.themakeryonline.co.uk/our-shop/makery-book-and-make-away-kits/makery-book/)

Day #29 Something I Could Neve Tire Of
Oooh, another weird one - something j could never tire of - I'm wondering cheese, red wine, chocolate - but maybe that's because of the time of year. I'm also wondering fairy lights? I love fairy lights. Something I could never tire of...coffee. Done.

Day #30 Three Wonderful Things That Happened This Month
Finishing with a humdinger! Three wonderful things that happened this month. I ordered a slow cooker through the generosity of Rupert Murdoch, that was nice - can't wait to start producing some food in that bay boy. I also had a lovely weekend visiting the parents in Oxfordshire this month and seeing some great progress on my Dads previously burnt to a crisp shop. Lastly I have just had a few wonderful days with my old flame, Laura. It'd been 4yrs since I saw her last and it was like nothing had changed.

Thanks again to everyone for following this November blog, hope you've enjoyed it and at times found it amusing!

Have a wonderful Christmas and I'll see you all same time next year.

Day #27 A Silly Self Portrait

Day #27 A Silly Self Portrait

Courtesy of one Megan Martin (age 4) over the weekend when she ran out of face in her book and so we decided that sticking to real people was the only option. I look like a killer from Blacklist.

Day #26 Something I'm Looking Forward To

Day #26 Something I'm Looking Forward To

This one is easy - seeing a best mate after thre years, come on down Laura Holdstock!

It's going to be quite an adventure. Spending a couple of days on the Isle of Wight and then heading back to London Town for a couple of days of festive fun.

Although it's been three years I get the feeling it'll be like no time has passed at all, CAN'T WAIT!!

What are you looking forward to?

Day #23 Eight things you didn't know about me. Day #24 Something that makes me smile. Day #25 The contents of my purse.

Oops, had a lazy weekend which means doing three days in one, you lucky people!

Day #23 Eight things you didn't know about me

1. I'm a bit of a control freak and like order - the hand wash has to be in a certain position on the shelf and you can only cut an onion one way, my way!
2. I don't do anything unless I know i'm going to be good at it (or can give it a bloody good go)
3. I used to do horse riding lessons as a kid and wasn't half bad
4. I don't like marmite, coriander, or fish
5. I know how to knit
6. I snore (even on public transport, shocking)
7. I don't like looking out of windows when it's dark outside, especially after watching The Following.
8. My hair isn't actually the colour you see it to be, I've been going grey since by late teens.

Day #24 Something that makes me smile

Lots of things make me smile - people, occasions, observations.

One person that always makes me smile for the most random of reasons would be my lovely other half. He's actually a little crazy and comes out with the most random comments. You'll quite often be sitting watching something on tele to then find that he's become bored and is then googling something on my phone - you'll then ask him what he's looking up and it'll be something like "famous people who served in the Vietnam war" (it's normally much more interesting than that I'm sure that was one of his searches). He's a complete genius when it comes to history so I can't knock him, very handy in a pub quiz.

He also drives car like an airline pilot which makes me smile :-)

Day #25 The contents of my purse
I think I was confused by this one last year as i think they actually mean handbag, but as the blog generates in America they say purse. Saying that, I already wrote about my 'purse' earlier in the blog challenge - maybe I'll give you an update - it now also contains hand cream, lip balm and porridge oats!

There you go, a good mornings read.

Day #22 What I Love About My Job

Day #22 What I Love About My Job

First of all let me tell you what I do - I'm a Music Licensing Executive at BSkyB - it sounds fancy, executives are supposed I be 50yrs+, but basically it means I licence music for Sky content, my main areas being our channel promos and Sky Sports content. What I can't tell you about Cricket, you probably already know!

So what so I love about my job? Christmas! Were on a site of around 9,000 people in the middle of nowhere and as such, Sky put on a lot of things for staff over Christmas - this year were getting an Ice Rink I believe. We also have our ownChristmas market and they also do a stonking roast dinner in the canteen, as well as carol singing, and the mother of all treats - every staff gets a present from the chief! And they good presents: hampers, wine, days out - this year I've gone for a slow cooker, something I've been threatening to buy since we got the house, and now I have one on the way, eeek!!

What do you love about your job?

Day #20 Something That Means A Lot Tp Me

Day #20 Something That Means A Lot To Me

Wow, it's already the 20th November, that's shocking, still haven bought one Christmas present!

Anyway - something that means a lot to me? I'm going to head down the same route a I did last year - I have a lot of gifts from people who are still around you, but I think it's the little things that remind you of those who live on in your memories that have an extra charm about them, and of course I'm talking about my Nan.

She was a lovely flossy haired nan who loved her family soo much, and always had a little dog by her side (which my parents have now inherited). One of her 'things' was Lilliput Lane - the mini model houses you can buy. She had HUNDREDS of them and I used to find it fascinating to look at them when we wen to visit. When she passed, they were divvied out between the three boys and us grandchildren also took one each.

I had never noticed before but she had a Lilliput Lane model of The Royal Albert Hall - being someone who's always been close to music I took that one. Interestingly though my Dad used to have music lessons in one of the rehearsal rooms at the Albert Hall, maybe that was part of the thinking behind why she originally bought it - who knows.

Anyway, since it came into my possession it's mainly lived its life on a shelf but as I'm sure you'll know if you've ever encountered a Lilliput Lane model, they're very heavy - so I use mine as a door stop! That might sound a little disrespectful but it's a pretty cool door stop and every time I move it I think of my nan and it makes me smile.

What's something that means a lot to you?

Day #19 Myself, One Year Ago

Day #19 Myself, One Year Ago

Where I did this blog challenge last year, it's interesting to now revisit these topics again.

What was I upto one year ago - a lot happened last year, the main one for being the job move from Bucks to Sky, that was one hell of a culture shock! Going from an office of 25 to a site of 8,000(?) people. I love it though - they make a lot of effort at Sky to ensure that everyone plays their part, maybe easier done when your department is quite small for the number of people you serve.

So I had moved jobs at the end of March which meant that this time last year d probably just found my feet and started to relax. At the same time we took the decision to move in with Tareqs parents for a year or so to save for a house - it was silly how much we were paying in rent and we knew that if we could save that money each month that we'd be in a much better position to buy.

Otherwise last year was my little mini mission to not be 'Fat at Thirty', hitting the Weight Watcher hard and losing around 16lbs over the Summer - of course a lot of it went back in the Winter and I'm now back to where I stared, although each time you go on a diet I think you become more in control of what your eating and more accepting of the consequences. Anyway, probably look to lose a few lbs after Xmas but in the meantime I'll just make sure pictures are of only my face and 'from above'.

What's changed for you in the last year?

Day #18 My Outfit

Day #18 My Outfit

It's really not that exciting I'm afraid, a good staple Monday outfit when it's dark and cold outside.

From top to bottom right now we've gone for a long pale pink jumper, black leggings and tan knee high boots, teamed with a white scarf and my black leather jacket. It's cosy, I like it.

What's your outfit today?

Day #17 My Family

Day #17 My Family

Where do i start.

My mum and dad originate in London. We then moved to Tadley (by reading) when I was teeny tiny and then to Oxford when I was about four (?).

'We' are Mum (Christine), Dad (Keith) and my two older brothers (Paul and Tony). Paul then has a wife (Clare) and three sprogs (Oli, Isaac, and Sebastian), Tony has his lovely lady (Natalie), and I have my other half (Tareq).

On from there we have what we call the 'extended' family - or my 'local' family.
As I'm now down in Kent, Paul is in the US, Tony is West London and Mum & Dad are in Oxforshire, I don't get to see my family all that much - maybe once every six weeks. That's where my other halfs family come in - they all live just round the corner from each other and luckily also just round the corner from us!

They are Mrs Heera (Sandra), Mr Heera (Shariff), and Tareqs older sister (Nadia). Nadia is then married to Danny and they are parents to Charlie and Megan. My favourite pastime is always Sandra's Sunday lamb roast, yumm, with all the family around the table eating load of nice food - you can't beat it!

And of course my present and future family is my other half, Tareq. Lord only knows how he puts up with me sometimes but we've been together over 4yrs now and own a house together - can't wait to spend many more years with him!

That's my family, who's in yours?

Day #16 Someone Who Inspires Me

This one is easy. My Dad.

Who inspires you?

Day #15 Three Blogs I Always Read

Day #15 Three Blogs I Always Read

Hmm, how about just the one? I don't read blogs, I like writing them but I don't have the time to be reading loads.

The only one I do read is by my sister-in-law so I can 'keep up with the Goslings' in the US, it's called Have Goslings, must Travel.

Other than my amazing blog(s), what other blogs do you read?

Day #14 Style Inspiration for the Season

Day #14 Style Inspiration for the Season

Easy, my leather jacket. I bought it a few years ago now, and it's taken me a whole to get used to but now I love it and it wear it with anything and everything.

I bought it in a debenhams sale when they were doing like 20% jackets, it's Rocha by John Rocha (Bond, James Bond) and it's soo cosey and wind proof, I love it.

Saying that, I don't have a picture of it or me wearing it, hmm.

That and my Button Ears - wearing some today actually, red hearts.

What's your style inspiration for the season?

Day #13 Something I'm Proud Of

Day #13 Something I'm Proud Of

PROUD/praÊŠd/adjective - feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions or those of someone with whom one is closely associated.

Sometimes I think I OVERthink these blog posts and feel as though each one needs to be uber meaningful - maybe they don't, after all I did do one yesterday about crumpets!

Something I'm proud of - there are a lot of things I'm proud which I guess I a thing in itself. I have a nice home, a great partner, great friends, a lovely family, and I enjoy my job. It's not all rosey all the time but I'm proud of each of them - after all good things take effort and commitment and that effort and commitment should result in what you want it to be - something to be proud of.

Probably doesn't fulfil the brief but I have it a go without getting all sentimental, it's too early for that (7:12am to be precise!)

What are you proud of?

Day #11 Three Years Ago today

This is always a bit of a funny post to write as I can't tell you what I was doing exactly three years ago today but I could so a summery of what I was doing around that time.

So, the 11th November 2010 - the first thing I did to try and help with this blog post was look at the pictures on my phone, an the closest I got was September 2010 and this;

This was taken at Alcatraz in San Francisco about 2 months before, our great US road trip upto Napa Valley, down to LA and then up to Vegas.

I would have been working as the Licensing Manager Bucks Music and we (me and the Manfriend) were living in Flat 17d in Blackheath Grove, which funnily enough I've just gone past on my train to work.

Life was good - still is - although it's amazing to think how much has changed in the last three years!

What were you doing three years ago today?

Day #10 A Favourite Recipe

Day #10 A Favourite Recipe

I won't claim that I have any real cooking skills - I can chuck some meat with some sauce and a salad but that's Bout as inventive as I get.

We tried to do the whole Jamie Oliver 30min meals a whole back and aside from the massive shopping bill, they would also never take 30mins - that's 30mins for Oliver, not for master chefs Gosling and Heera! BUT one recipe we did have some success with was this;

Jamie Olivers Spinach & Feta Filo Pie (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-1314837/Jamie-Olivers-30-minute-meals-Spinach--feta-filo-pie-cucumber-salad-tomato-salad-coated-ice-cream.html)

Second to that is out recent idiots way of making Lasagne - from a packet - nothing fancy but it does the job when you get home from work, check it out in a supermarket near you!

What's your favourite recipe?

Day #9 A Close Up Of My Day

Day #9 A Close Up Of My Day

As most of you probably know, I don't usually like doing much with my weekends (that's what a 3hr commute everyday does to you!), but this weekend is different which makes a great blog for today.

Somehow we managed to sleep in until half eleven this morning - very unlike us, but obviously needed. We've also been going through a "how can we decorate on a budget" phase so we had planned to do a bit of DIY today.

After a builders fry-up breakfast (needed before any DIY can take place) we got stated on the bathroom - which were painting YELLOW! We've done an initial coat and I love it already;

We've also bought a spangly mirror and a floor rack to go around the bottom on the sink to try and tidy up our toiletries.

The secon DIY mission didn't go so well - as both the bedroom and office windows overlook the street, as an alternative to the wooden blinds we want to eventually get and not having horrible net curtains I bought some frosting film - works brilliantly in the bedroom but for some reason we've had a disaster trying to get it onto the office window - meaning now that I've run out of frosting and need to buy some more, v.annoying, but here's how it looks in the bedroom;

Task three was a lovely tree wall sticker that I bought for the bedroom wall, but on trying to apply that it appears to not be very sticky and were going to need to spray glue to get it on. When it is up it should look something like this;

Hopefully by the end of the weekend we'll have a better looking bathroom and a tree in the bedroom - the office will have to wait!

Tonight were heading our to dinner with some good friends in Sidcup to take a nosey at their new flat which will be nice after an only mildly successful day of DIY, maybe we should of stopped at painting!

What have you been upto today?

Day #8 Three Inspirational Quotes

Day #8 Three Inspirational Quotes

Am I'm sure didn't surprise you, I've made mine about music :-)

Quote #1
"Music is what feelings sound like" (Author Unknown) - this is pretty self explainitory and I think incredibly true. As it's Author Unknown I might claim this as my doing!

Quote #2
"Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it" (John Lennon) - I found this one a few months back and I thought it was quite interesting. Ironically John Lennons estate will be profiting immensely from his publishing royalties, maybe they should forfeit them and allow the use of his copyrights for free? I know that's what I'll be trying next time I need to licence his compositions.

Quote #3

"Music is the strongest form of magic" (Marilyn Manson) - this is an old favourite of mine, I've used it as my quote of the week at work and in presentations. When you find a song that makes you react, whether it be happy, sad, angry, it sets off a form of magic inside. Shame it's a quote from someone who creates awful music!

Happy Friday!

Day #7 A Song For The Day

Day #7 A Song For The Day

I like to think that given my job I'm quite tuneful most days - not that I claim to actually know much about music, although I was quite impressed when I started singing a mixture of Arctic Monkeys, the cricket theme and Walking on Sunshine yesterday.

Anyway, so this morning whilst I was dismantling my wardrobe to find something to wear I started singing my own versions of songs from The Wedding Singer soundtrack, I don't know why. Most mornings you'll find me doing some kind of Reeves and Mortimer style arrangement of something.

There you go, I've planted a whole soundtrack as my song of the day, what's yours?

Day #6 A Book I'm Reading

Day #6 A Book Im Reading

So one of the great things I thought would occur from having nearly a 4hr commute to work everyday was that on getting my iPad Mini tht I could increase the size of my Kindle app and read more.

I tried. I failed.

The problem is that as I'm always either half awake or half asleep, reading finishes me off and I then fall asleep on the train.

The most recent book I tried was Inferno by Dan Brown, think I'm about 20pages in on my last count. In an attempt to keep going with it I did a free trial on Audible but audio books are pretty dull - the whole point of reading is having imagination and part of that I think is hearing the words in your own voice (albeit in your head).

I wish I did have the ability to read more and I used to love mornings when is get on the circle line in the morning and whip out my latest read, it takes you to a whole new world. Maybe once daylight retyurns in the mornings/evenings I might try again but at the moment reading isn't an option.

Why are you reading at the moment?

Day #5 My Hometown

Day #5 My Hometown

Now technically I was born somewhere in west London - I can't think where to be honest with you but I do know that on Christmas Day two years ago I passed the site where the hospital was whilst driving back to Oxford - where I grew up and where I would classify to be my 'hometown'.

I lived in Oxford from the age of around 4 I believe and left when I was 22 to live in London, so I spent a majority of my childhood in Oxford.

We lived in a few areas over the years - initially on Walton Street above my dad's bike shop which is now a Loch Fyne restaurant. I went to St Barbabas first school which was just over the back gate of the shop and spent much of my childhood wondering around Jericho.

We then moved to Botley when I was maybe 15 when my Dad got given a bigger shop in Cowley Rd (this was the point that Loch Fyne moved in!) and we were probably there for around 6/7 years.

After that we moved to Stanford in the Vale which is where my parents are now - lovely little village not too far from Faringdon - bit like what you see in Hot Fuzz.

It was great living and growing up in Oxford - waiting outside Miss Selfridge as a kid waiting for my mates to turn up to wonder round the shops, getting the bus to school, St.Giles fair, wondering to go and pick conkers from the graveyard down the road, nights out with mates inuding a whole summer of going to The Bridge and waking up in Hog's house trying to piece together what happened and how we got home.

Oxford was a great place to be as a kid - lots to see and do - what was your hometown? Do you still live there?

Day #4 A Friend I Adore

Day #4 A Friend I Adore

The picture says it all really - I have known this lovely lady for around 18yrs and she is still to this day one of my loveliest friends. I go for quality instead of quantity and Miss Georgia Black is about as brilliant as they come.

This picture was taken at my 30th birthday earlier this year and it always makes me smile - we had quite a time trying to take a serious photo as you can see!

Which friend do you adore?

Day#3 Something I Never Leave The House Without

Day #3 Something I Never Leave The House Without

This is an easy one for a woman - it's my handbag! Currently I'm rocking a lovely M & S number which I spotted a few weeks ago whilst out shopping for Tareqs Mums birthday and then received as a lovely surprise present from Tareq a few days later, he's soon lovely! I blinded it up with my 'J' key ring and I was ready to go.

This bag is PERFECT! Enough space for everything - it has two big pockets inside split by an internal zip up pocket in the middle, perfect for my lovely little iPad mini. The two pockets are used for my purse and travel cards/phones/work pass etc, and the secondly the 'essentials' - toiletries, umbrella, and a handy cardigan if needed. There is also a little front pocket where the buckle is which holds my sunglasses.

I love this bag and couldn't do without it...well, unless a Mulberry appears then I may make the sacrifice!

What can't you leave the house without?

Day #2 A Favourite Film

Day #2 A Favourite Film

A favourite film that I've seen recently is Flight starting Denzil Washington - a true story about an alcoholic pilot who safely undertakes a crash landing and is later found to have had a high level of alcohol in his system at the time.

It's a clever story in that it doesn't try to attempt a fairy tale ending although it does make you feel slightly skeptical about flying anytime soon!

What's a favourite film of yours?

Day #1 A Place I'd Like To Visit

Here we go folks - day #1 of the 30 Days blog challenge. Bit freaked out that it's now November but it's certainly making me start to feel festive!

#1: A Place I'd Like To Visit
A couple of years ago we went on an amazing adventure to the US doing the route between San Francisco, LA, and Las Vegas (via a few stops on the way including a balloon ride through the Napa Valley). To get from place to place we had a number of long road trips through some amazing scenery and we loved it soo much that we've already planned the next one (convenient for this post me thinks!)

This time starting ok the East Coast - Washington, then onto New York, across to Denver and driving down through the Rocky Mountains to Navada and (you guessed it) Las Vegas.

We've done a bit of research into how we could do this kind of journey as the US is not a small country - it's not like driving from London to Scotland. One of the options we looked at was Amtrak - it has a certain charm about it, or so we thought. I guess the magic behind an experience is maybe the unexpected and unfortunately as you can now find videos on anything on YouTube we quickly changed our minds about possibly 2/3 days on an Amtrak train.

The Rockies look amazing though, and we'd certainly want to take a good few days making our way through. Lots of natural springs along the way and amazing scenery (obvs). The route would also allow us to do the Grand Canyon which we didn't get to do last time - it was either that or the Balloon Ride so we went for the more obscure on the basis that we knew we'd probably be back in Navada again some day.

So there you have it - our next big adventure! I'm not sure when it'll happen but be sure that it WILL happen at some point.

Where would you like to visit?

You Are My Sunshine

As I'm going to be getting back into Blogging as of Thursdy I thought I'd entertain something which was sent to me by Clare whereby you share facts about yourself and request facts from your fellow bloggers;

* The rules:
1. Acknowledge the nominating blogger,
2. Share eleven random facts about yourself,
3. Answer the eleven questions set by your nominating blogger
4. Nominate eleven bloggers yourself,
5. Post eleven questions for your nominees to answer then let them know they're up.

I don't really follow other blogs too intently, I mainly blog just to talk out loud and amuse people, so steps 4 & 5 are going to be lost on me a little but I'll give the rest a go!

Step 1: Acknowledge the Blogger, tick!

Step 2: Eleven random facts about me

1. I always take a drink with me to bed and quite often can drink a pint of fruit squash during the night

2. I worked in a bike shop for 6yrs during school/uni

3. I am a big fan of lists and am a massive control freak

4. I've being going grey since about the age of 15

3. Would you change anything about the country you live in?
> Right now? More trains during rush hour

4. Nicest thing your partner has ever done for you.
> I think I'm quite lucky in that I think my other half does a lot of nice things for me everyday - he's always wry considerate and always put others first, I wouldn't change him for the world. Nicest thing? Most recently he surprised me when I got home with a handbag that I'd spotted while out shopping the weekend before.

5. 5 items you would take to a desert island.
> Suncream, a lot of books, rum, laptop, roast potatoes

7. Best kids film of all time
> Duck Tails

8. Which musician inspires you
> The oldies, the ones that didn't do what they do for fame

10. What is the yukkiest food in the world, that nothing would ever make you want to eat it?
> Tofu, what's the point!

11. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time???
